UPMC Shadyside is a fantastic place to work if you are an ICU RN or are interested in critical care since it has multiple updated critical care units, including MSICU, MICU, CTICU, SICU, and NICU. The inpatient hemodialysis unit is a great teaching unit for staff starting or returning to the HD specialty. Each floor is well-stocked with supplies and has the latest equipment for patient care regarding telemetry monitoring, vital sign measurement, etc. 

Hospital management needs improvement. Unit directors or managers, especially on the HD unit, can be very critical of charting and tend to micromanage staff, which can bring down morale, leading to call-offs. Staffing can also be short, leading to unsafe assignments and staff burnout. HD unit has a lot of turnover due to unsafe staffing and high patient caseload. Pay has improved slightly but is still unacceptable for the work staff members complete. I highly recommend working as an agency nurse here to receive fair compensation and avoid scrutiny from management.
