Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Telemetry unit position at a Level I Trauma Center in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience, EKG interpretation skills, and an AZ or compact RN license.
Details
- 32-bed Neuro Telemetry unit within a Level I Trauma Center (acute care setting)
- Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TBI, spinal surgery, tracheostomy, encephalopathy, ESRD, brain tumors, and psych-related conditions
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Charting via Cerner EMR using WOWs (Workstations on Wheels)
- Central telemetry monitoring in use; EKG interpretation required
- Titrated drips include Heparin, Amiodarone, and Cardizem
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
- Holidays worked into permanent unit rotation
- Float requirements include cardiac tele, tele overflow in ICU, and med-surg
- Charge nurses maintain a light patient assignment
- Nurse aide support available on days (4 aides) and nights (3 aides) for basic skills, vitals, and straight cath
- SWAT RN available for difficult IV access
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
- Average patient length of stay is 4–5 days; fast-paced, high-turnover unit
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level I Trauma Center experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — pending certifications are not accepted
- Neuro experience is a plus
- Ability to interpret EKGs and cardiac rhythms
- Competency in sterile technique, including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; permanent address is verified via driver's license
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- A pass/fail sterile technique assessment (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on Day 1 of orientation via SIMs Lab — nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field
- SIMs Lab also includes educational components for lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Floor-specific orientation is 2 days
- Bedside report is standard practice on this unit
- Steel gray scrubs required
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Travelers are required to have their own personal vehicle
- Holidays are covered based on unit rotation
