Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma Center in Chandler, AZ, requiring cardiac drip titration skills and the ability to float across multiple units and campuses.

Details

  • Acute care setting at a Level I Trauma Center
  • Float pool position covering multiple telemetry and med-surg units across two campuses approximately 9 miles apart
  • Float assignments may include CV Tele, Neuro Tele, MedSurg, ICU, Cath Lab holding, ER, and observation areas — unit and campus notification provided 1.5 hours prior to shift start
  • Mid-shift floating between units is possible; cross-campus floating within a single shift is rare but possible
  • Patient populations include post-cath lab, post-vascular, CABG, neuro/post-surgical, CVAs, spine, and general med-surg; no pediatrics under 15 years old
  • Patient ratios range from 1:3–4 on tele/neuro units to 1:4 on med-surg units
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must independently interpret EKGs
  • Cardiac drips managed include Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, and Dobutamine (titrate down); Cardizem titration also required on some units
  • No ventilator management required
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
  • Charge nurses on all units do not carry a patient assignment; PCTs available at approximately 1 per 16 patients
  • EMR: Cerner
  • 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM (nights)
  • 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per scheduling period required
  • Travelers are first to float
  • Navy scrubs required across all units

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
  • Must be proficient in cardiac drip titration
  • Ability to interpret EKGs independently
  • Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (maximum 2 attempts, must be completed within 48 hours of offer)
  • Must pass a Sim Lab skills assessment (sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address per driver's license) to be eligible for travel rates

Additional Information

  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays per assignment
  • Floor-specific orientation provided: 2 days/shifts on each assigned unit; overall orientation is 12 hours
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Failure of the Relias Dysrhythmia exam on the second attempt or failure of the Sim Lab assessment results in a 6-month do-not-use designation for the CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento regions
  • First-time travelers are not explicitly approved for this position given the testing requirements and float pool complexity
American Traveler Job ID #P-710794. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Telemetry
