Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Arizona, requiring Level 1 trauma experience and the ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma Center
- Unit: Cardiac Telemetry (7NNA), a 24-bed telemetry unit
- Patient population includes cardiac stepdown, chest pain, MI, pre-transplant, esophagectomy, ER overflow, and detox patients; travelers do not take transplant patients
- Patient ratio is 1:3-4 depending on acuity
- Uses Philips monitors; RNs are required to interpret EKGs
- Non-titrating drips administered on this unit; CPAP and high-flow oxygen in use
- EMR: Cerner (PCs in room)
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
- Holiday coverage based on unit rotation
- Float requirement to other telemetry units including T5, T6, and Neuro Tele
- Charge nurses are present and do not take patients except during high census
- PCT support: 2 aides on both days and nights
- SWAT RN available for difficult IV access; RT and pharmacy support available 24/7, with a pharmacist on the floor during days
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current AHA-issued BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Cardiac telemetry experience with EKG interpretation skills required
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation; two attempts allowed
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Must have own personal vehicle
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; men must be clean-shaven (for fit test purposes)
Additional Information
- Provides telemetry nursing care including EKG interpretation and management of non-titrating drips for a complex cardiac and surgical patient population
- 3-day floor-specific orientation provided upon start
- SIMs Lab is required on the first day of orientation and is pass/fail — skills tested include sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; nurses have been terminated during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
- Nurses who fail either the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (after 2 attempts) or the SIMs Lab sterile technique test are ineligible to work at CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and the Sacramento region for 6 months
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Navy scrubs required
