Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and working 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • Surgical Med/Tele unit specializing in Head/Neck and GI surgeries, including tracheostomies, laryngectomies, hernia repairs, colo-rectal surgery, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, ostomy takedowns, and medical overflow
  • 874-bed Level I Trauma center, teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center, and Magnet Designation
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6, with surge staffing potentially increasing ratios to 1:7–8; CNA support at 1:9–12
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating required within assigned region to multiple facilities as needed and within scope of practice — candidates must be willing to float or should not apply
  • No on-call responsibilities for travelers
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • Skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT/Dobhoff/PEG tube placement, drain management (Hemovac, JP, flexiseal), Foley insertion, and PCA pumps
  • Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Nurses are responsible for reading and responding to telemetry monitors — no dedicated monitoring tech on unit

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • One professional reference dated within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, 24/7 Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT Team, Resource Nurse (as available), and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
  • Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking available on-site
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
