Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and working 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • Work in a 36-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit at a 874-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes sepsis, respiratory illnesses, GI disorders, infections, liver failure, and AKI/CKD
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6 (acuity dependent); surge staffing may increase ratios up to 1:7-8
  • CNA support provided at a 1:9 ratio
  • Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry monitors and responding independently — no monitoring tech on unit
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating required within assigned region (Region 2 or Region 3) and scope of practice to multiple facilities — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
  • No on-call responsibilities for travelers
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Philips

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficient in general Med/Tele skills including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, 24/7 Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT Team, Resource Nurse (as available), Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
  • Orientation includes a facility-level NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; time off that results in unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • Parking is free
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered
  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
