Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and working 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- Work in a 36-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit at a 874-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes sepsis, respiratory illnesses, GI disorders, infections, liver failure, and AKI/CKD
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6 (acuity dependent); surge staffing may increase ratios up to 1:7-8
- CNA support provided at a 1:9 ratio
- Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry monitors and responding independently — no monitoring tech on unit
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within assigned region (Region 2 or Region 3) and scope of practice to multiple facilities — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- No on-call responsibilities for travelers
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Philips
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficient in general Med/Tele skills including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
- Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, 24/7 Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT Team, Resource Nurse (as available), Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
- Orientation includes a facility-level NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; time off that results in unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
- Scrubs: Navy
- Parking is free
- First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
