Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position in Chattanooga, TN, requiring 2+ years of L&D experience and active AWHONN intermediate fetal monitoring certification.
Details
- Labor and Delivery unit within a community hospital setting delivering 200+ births per month
- Unit includes 9 labor rooms, 6 triage rooms, 3 antepartum (AP) rooms, and 3 ORs
- Patient ratios: 1:1–2 for laboring patients, 1:2–3 for antepartum patients, and 1:1 for C-section and PACU
- OB tech is always available for scrubbing C-sections and assisting with vaginal deliveries
- Unit is supported by a dedicated charge nurse, a baby transport nurse, and a unit secretary (0700–2300)
- Documentation systems: Meditech and Centricity
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3 shifts per week
- Floating to Mother Baby is possible but infrequent; no floating to other departments
- If working during winter holidays, must be available to work 1–2 days or evenings
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license — TN license or Compact RN license required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Advanced 9th Edition, American Academy of Pediatrics card), and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
- Prior travel contract experience preferred
- SSN (US only) and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)
Additional Information
- Procedures performed include cervical exams, IUPC and FSE placement, vaginal deliveries, IV starts with lab draws, circulating and recovering cesarean sections (spinal and occasional general anesthesia)
- Team utilizes advanced tools including the Jada system, fetal pillow, and Cook's catheters
- Facility is the first in Chattanooga to offer nitrous oxide therapy for labor pain management alongside epidural analgesia
- 24-hour coverage provided by both an MD and CNM through a laborist program (Diana Health), with dedicated anesthesia providers around the clock
- Labor and delivery and mother-baby units recently underwent extensive renovations, including six new state-of-the-art mother-baby rooms
- Scrub color requirement: solid black, gray, or pink only — no patterns, sweatshirts, or t-shirts
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- All certifications must remain valid through at least the first 30 days of the assignment start date
