Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I Trauma Center requiring active IL RN licensure and prior OR/trauma experience.

Details

• Work in the Surgery Room/OR department of a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital
• Unit handles approximately 60-75 cases per day across outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases
• Includes 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular procedures seeing 5-10 cases per day
• Patient population includes GSW, stabbings, transplant (kidney, heart), donor cases, general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open heart/CABG cases
• Approximately 20% of caseload is pediatric (open hearts, appendectomy, cholecystectomy)
• No liver or lung transplant cases performed
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Night shift schedule 10:45pm-7:15am, 40 hours per week
• OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year with skeleton crew coverage overnight and after hours on weekends
• 6-week rotation-based schedule provided 2-4 weeks in advance with no self-scheduling
• Weekend rotation required every 4th weekend (Friday/Saturday)
• On-call required with 30-minute response time; on-call frequency is 3 call shifts within a 6-week period
• No floating required

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2-3 years of acute care experience required
• Level 1-2 trauma experience required
• Critical care experience preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Must be able to scrub and circulate for surgical cases
• Minimum 12 months of core work experience in OR specialty, with most recent experience within the last year
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide perioperative nursing care across a wide range of surgical specialties including trauma, transplant, cardiovascular, and pediatric cases
• Unit participates in Gifts of Hope organ donation cases
• Supported by charge nurse, resource nurse, anesthesiologist, ANM, educators, service line reps, and EPIC super-users
• Orientation includes meeting educators and ANM, gaining system access, completing online modules, and EPIC training on day one, followed by unit orientation on days two and three
• Holiday coverage required for 1 winter holiday and 1 summer holiday
• All time-off requests must be submitted via email to the manager
• Scrubs are provided and free parking is available
• Sleeping room available for on-call team members
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for this travel assignment
