Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric Stepdown position requiring 2 years of pediatric MS experience and PALS certification.
Details
- Work in the Pediatric Stepdown unit of a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
- Unit cares for a mix of acuity levels from general medical to stepdown IMC patients
- Patient population includes neuro, diabetic, nephrology, spinal fusion, intermediate, and general care cases
- Manages pulmonary and respiratory failure cases, including trach and ventilator-dependent patients
- Uses CPAP and BiPAP equipment
- Maintains a 1:3 patient ratio
- Epic EMR experience required
- Day shift (7:00am-7:30pm) or Night shift (7:00pm-7:30am), 3x12-hour shifts
- Monday through Friday schedule with every other weekend required
- Floating required as needed
Requirements
- Active RN license (WI or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS and PALS (AHA only)
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Medical-Surgical experience required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Must pass a telemetry exam prior to start with strict passing criteria for both adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation
- Skilled in IV therapy, central line care, and administration of blood and blood products
- Skilled in respiratory care including chest tube management, tracheostomy care, and ventilator management
- Skilled in pediatric dosage calculations and administration of anti-seizure and emergency medications
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients with a range of medical, surgical, and stepdown needs
- Utilize Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) and participate in Rapid Response Team activities as needed
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias with continuous telemetry monitoring on the unit
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility as local candidates are not accepted
- All references must be removed prior to consideration
- Assignment cancellation may occur if the telemetry exam is not passed within three attempts
