Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric Stepdown position requiring 2 years of pediatric medical-surgical experience and PALS certification.
Details
- Work in the Pediatric Stepdown unit of a comprehensive pediatric medical and surgical center
- Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU facility
- Patient population includes neuro, diabetic, nephrology, spinal fusion, intermediate and general care patients
- Mix of acuity from general medical to stepdown IMC
- Patient ratio of 1:3
- Cares for patients with pulmonary lines and respiratory failure, including trach and ventilator dependence
- Uses CPAP and BiPAP equipment
- Epic EMR experience required
- 12-hour Day or Night shifts, 7:00am-7:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am
- Monday through Friday schedule with every other weekend required
- Floating required as needed
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required (AHA only)
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Medical-Surgical experience required within the last 3 years
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Must pass a telemetry exam prior to start with strict passing criteria for both adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and administration of blood products
- Experience with pediatric dosage calculations and anti-seizure medications
- Skilled in respiratory care including tracheostomy management, ventilator management, and oxygen delivery systems
- Experience with NG tube insertion and management, and indwelling urinary catheter care
- Skilled in insulin administration and insulin pump management
- Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
- All references must be removed from consideration
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care across a range of pediatric conditions including neurologic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, and cardiovascular needs
- Participate in Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) and Rapid Response Team protocols
- Facility is a Magnet-designated, nationally recognized pediatric specialty center
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility as local candidates are not accepted
- Parking permit required through UW Transportation for onsite parking, with alternative transportation options available including bus and park & ride
