Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with at least 1 year of experience for a night shift position supporting a 6-bed ICU, ER, M/S, PEDS, and newborn stabilization at a community hospital.
Details
- 13-week travel assignment in a hospital's Respiratory Therapy department
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Covers a 6-bed ICU, ER, M/S, PEDS, and low-volume newborn stabilization areas
- Care primarily focused on adult patients, with occasional pediatric and newborn stabilization prior to transport
- May work alone or alongside a second therapist
- Preferred ventilators include Servo I, LTV, and Hamilton T1
- Performs routine medication delivery via invasive and noninvasive ventilator management
- May be asked to perform occasional after-hours EKGs in support of the Cardiology Department
- May provide care to COVID-19 patient populations
- Candidates will float as needed
- Epic charting experience preferred
- MediTech experience is a plus
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
- Community hospital experience required
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, CRT, NRP
- RRT, PALS, and STABLE certifications preferred
- NY state license required prior to consideration
- License required if applicable
- Experience with adult critical care and emergency department settings
- Skilled in airway management including extubation, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy care, and pulmonary hygiene
- Proficient in ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Skilled in interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
- Experience with medication delivery systems including aerosol setups, MDIs, and hand-held nebulizers
- Familiarity with a wide range of respiratory medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, and others
- Comfortable working with high-flow nasal cannula and trach collar oxygen therapy

- Provide compassionate, proficient bedside respiratory care primarily to adult patients while remaining comfortable treating all ages
- Ability to work independently and adapt to a changing care environment
- Unit orientation includes training on interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
- Scrub color requirements are flexible
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered
- Previous employees may be considered for return after a 6-month system-wide waiting period
- Candidates with more than 10 days of requested RTO will not be considered
