Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a busy surgical unit requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Nursing unit specializing in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) within a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with 874 licensed beds
- 36-bed unit caring for complex GI surgery patients (partial and total colectomy, bowel resections, anastomosis, Whipple, distal pancreatectomy/splenectomy, liver resection) and trauma overflow
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with surge staffing potentially increasing to 1:7-8
- CNA to patient ratio of 1:9-12
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors used on the unit
- No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech; nurses independently read monitors and respond
- 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within region and scope of practice to other facilities as needed based on regional assignment
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Most recent clinical experience within the last year required
- Experience with complex GI surgical and trauma patient populations required
- General Med/Tele skillset required including basic cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
- Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management (Heparin, blood products, IVF, cardiac drips) required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to complex surgical and trauma overflow patients on a busy ERAS unit
- Unit support includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, IV/VAT team, resource nurse as available, and 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
- Traveler's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates are not accepted
- Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position before being eligible for a travel assignment
- If floating mid-shift between facilities, travel time will be paid and traveler will remain on the clock
