Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN for a Stepdown/IMU position requiring telemetry and drip titration experience with rotating day/night shifts.

Details

  • Work in a 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) in an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre/post cardiac catheterization, and Tikosyn therapy patients
  • Manages radial bands, performs groin checks, and occasionally cares for chest tube patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:4 to 1:5, occasionally up to 1:6
  • Uses Sunrise EMR
  • Uses Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors and must independently read and interpret own strips despite Tele Tech support
  • Must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
  • 12-hour day/night rotating shifts, must be on unit by 6:45am/pm
  • Weekend requirement of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule for both day and night staff
  • Staff working straight days must also work a minimum of 3 night shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Self-scheduling permitted with 4 requested days off per month, provided unit needs are met
  • Floating required into Tele or MedSurg units with ratios up to 1:6, occasionally 1:7 in MedSurg
  • Respiratory equipment (AirVo, Bipap) managed by in-house RT team, available 24/7
  • IV starts handled by dedicated IV/PICC team available 24/7
  • Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage in-house 24/7, along with residents

Requirements

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required, willing to wait for license processing
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Must be competent in titrating multiple high-risk medication drips
  • Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration
  • Any licensing history issues must be disclosed at time of consideration

Additional Information

  • Floor-specific orientation includes 4 hours with HR followed by 1.5 days on the unit with a preceptor before working independently
  • Charge nurses carry a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts
  • Unit also staffed with a Clinical Assistant and 2-3 CNAs with ratios of 1:10-12
  • Pharmacy is in-house 24/7 utilizing Pyxis system
  • Scrub requirement: navy blue top and bottom, navy scrub jackets, no hoodies
  • Holiday coverage may be required but is typically minimal as holidays are usually covered by permanent staff
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to qualify as a traveler (no local candidates)
  • Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers are limited to a maximum of one year working within the WVU system, followed by a mandatory 2-year break
  • Zero tolerance attendance policy allows only 2 occurrences (tardies/call-offs) per 13-week contract before termination
