Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 2+ years of L&D experience and current NRP/FHM certification.
Details
- Labor and Delivery unit within a short-term acute care hospital
- Day shift schedule, 2x12-hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM
- Follows AWHONN staffing guidelines, typically 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for non-active labor, and up to 1:3 for triage or antepartum patients
- Handles labor, induction, scheduled and unscheduled C-sections, C-section with salpingectomy, SROM, PPROM, hypertension, preeclampsia, and antenatal/triage patients
- Uses CADD epidural pumps, Alaris IV pumps, Phillips wired/wireless monitoring, Periwatch, Hillrom labor beds, Draeger Radiant warmers, vein light, and v-scan
- MCH float required
- On-call required every 3rd weekend
- Floating required to affiliate hospitals nearby as needed
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license required and must be in hand prior to start
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, FHM
- Cerner charting experience required
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Charge experience preferred
- Nursing degree must be from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- 2 supervisor references required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive labor and delivery care including antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum management
- Assist with vaginal and C-section deliveries, including circulating and recovering C-section patients
- Support neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, and neonatal resuscitation
- Provide newborn care including newborn assessment, phototherapy, and discharge teaching to parents
- Manage high-acuity conditions such as HELLP syndrome, preeclampsia/eclampsia, preterm labor, and VBAC/trial of labor
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position

- Any current or former IU Health perm/PRN employee must be separated for 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must take a designated break to reset eligibility (3 months for out-of-state residents, 6 months for in-state residents)
- RTO of 5 days or less can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
