- Recommended experience as RN circulator; scrubbing experience preferred
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant OR nursing experience
- Not recommended for first-time travel nurses (prior travel experience preferred)
Required Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Clinical Skills and Procedures
- Neuro/ENT surgeries including:
- Spine surgeries: laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, discectomies
- Cranial surgeries: tumors, VP shunts, subdural, EVDs (no setup required)
- ENT surgeries: neck dissections with flaps, sinus surgery (Stealth Navigation), tonsillectomy, tympanoplasty
- Navigation systems experience preferred:
- Medtronic (cranial & spine)
- Medtronic Stealth (ENT)
- Stryker & Synaptive Navigation (cranial)
- Orthopedic procedures: fractures, anterior hips, total joints, ortho spine, hand/podiatry
- Familiarity with Hanna Table equipment
- Additional exposure to:
- Breast/plastics, vascular, laparoscopic, general oncology, genitourinary, gynecology, robotic surgery (Xi) — robotic experience required for contracts longer than one term
Unit Support and Environment
- Support from charge nurse, leads, supervisors, and manager
- Patient ratio: 1:1
- Level III Trauma Center and Level III NICU environment (facility details for context only)
Charting and Equipment Systems
- EPIC electronic health record system
- Alaris infusion pumps
- Pyxis medication dispensing system
Orientation and Training
- Orientation duration: 1 to 1.5 weeks (varies by team and shift)
- Cross-training to General Main OR and Urology Center specialties
- No floating to other hospitals or sites
Scheduling and Shifts
- 8-hour evening shifts, 40 hours per week
- Variable day shift start times between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM (if applicable)
- Weekend rotation: none
- Holiday scheduling: option to work four 10-hour shifts or take holiday unpaid
On-Call Requirements
- 30-minute response time
- 8-week call schedule (may vary)
- Call shifts vary by specialty and shift (AMS and PM slots available)
- Weekend call 1-2 weekends per schedule
Additional Information
- Surgical scrubs provided; scrub caps allowed but must be covered by surgical bouffant
- Free parking and shuttle service available
- Food options on campus include Starbucks and cafeteria
- No call rooms available on site
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in Neurosurgery
- Experience in ENT Surgery
This position is ideal for experienced OR nurses with a strong Neuro/ENT background seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity surgical environment.
