Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Location: White Plains, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 34 hours
Hours per Day: 12 hours

Job Description

• Labor and Delivery RN needed for a 13-week travel assignment.
• Must be able to scrub and circulate for C-sections performed on the unit.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with high-risk obstetric patients.
• Responsible for full patient assessments and exams.
• Nurses do not insert intrauterine pressure catheters (IUPC).
• Floating may occur within OB or nursery but nurses will not take patients outside L&D.
• Unit uses Meditech and GE EMR systems (charting in two systems).
• Nurse aides are replaced by scrub techs.
• Charge nurses typically do not take patients and serve as unit leaders 3 days a week.
• Weekend requirement: every 3rd weekend for day shifts; night shift weekends are Friday and Saturday.
• Orientation: 2-3 shifts floor-specific.

Unit Details

• 14 beds total: 5 triage/inpatient, 6 labor, 2 OR beds.
• Hospitalist or intensivist coverage in-house 3 nights per week.
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7.
• Scrub colors provided by hospital.
• Nurses expected to have strong customer service skills.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with high-risk obstetric patients
• Ability to scrub and circulate for C-sections
• ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

• Patient ratios follow AWONN guidelines.
• Nurses must be comfortable with both scrubbing and circulating in the OR for C-sections.
• High-risk OB patients primarily managed on L&D; low-risk antepartum patients are on a separate OB side.
• Mag sulfate patients are managed on L&D.
