Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry)

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Day shift, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Patient Ratio: Budgeted for 1:5, may flex up to 1:7 maximum

Unit Description

• 28-bed elective surgery and trauma unit specializing in post-surgical care for spinal, orthopedic, bariatric, and colorectal surgeries.
• Level III trauma patient care.
• Unit also manages medical-surgical overflow when volume permits.
• Capability to monitor up to 8 telemetry patients.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS certification
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
• Fit test for any N95 mask within 1 year of start; facility does not allow PAPR
• Immunizations and titers required within 10 years or as specified:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer or declination)
  • Varicella (titer or declination; declination not allowed for Mother Baby or infant/peds units)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within past 10 years (exemptions not accepted)
• Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or T-spot) within 1 year; annual TB testing required
• Seasonal flu vaccination required annually by October 31 (medical/religious exemptions allowed with mask requirement)
• COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required; documentation collected if available

Background and Screening

• 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Zero tolerance for any license or background hits; any hits will result in cancellation
• Fingerprint-based Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check required
• E-Verify required for direct placements; attestation required for sub-vendors
• Must complete and sign National Criminal Record Request Form within 72 hours of contract signing

Documentation and Compliance

• Passport-style photo (shoulders up, front-facing, plain background) required before start
• Completion of unit-specific job description and skills checklist (updated annually)
• Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
• Acknowledgment of pass/fail testing for EKG and medication competency
• Proof of 2 professional references required
• Complete employment application/resume required

Work Schedule and Conditions

• 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts available; overtime paid after 48 hours
• Candidate must indicate shift preference
• Scrub color: Royal Blue (not provided)

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience preferred but not required
• Must be prepared to work in a fast-paced post-op orthopedic/bariatric/colorectal telemetry unit
• Candidate must be pre-closed on patient ratios before placement
