Med Surg RN — Saint Peter, Minnesota

Overview

• 13-week contract
• Night shift
• 36 hours per week
• 12-hour shifts
• Med-surg unit with a 25-bed census

Required Qualifications

• Active RN role
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• One previous travel assignment
• Proficient in IV starts
• Orthopedics experience
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must be able to read telemetry strips

Unit Details

• Typical patient population includes heavy ortho post-op cases, general post-op, pneumonia, orthopedics, CHF, COPD, weakness, and geriatric patients with multiple comorbidities
• Rare pediatric patients under 18
• Common drips include heparin; insulin, cardizem, levophed, and dopamine may also be used
• No tele monitor tech on the unit
• Charge nurse may assist with monitoring
• Nurse aides are available, 2 per shift
• No respiratory therapist on the unit; tele-RT support is available
• Vent patients are rare

Schedule and Expectations

• Manager creates the schedule
• Block scheduling may be allowed depending on unit needs
• Every third weekend required
• Facility holiday rotation every third holiday
• No call requirement
• No standby requirement
• No floating requirement

Orientation

• Three 12-hour shifts of orientation
• One orientation shift is on days for access to programs and pharmacy

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs
• Navy scrub jacket
• Any color or print undershirt allowed
