Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) – If applicable
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – If applicable, AWHONN or NCC-EFM certification accepted
- State License – Must have a valid professional nursing license for California
- NURSYS Verification – Required for all RNs
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit or specialty (e.g., IV Certification, Management of Assaultive Behavior, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience in specialty (Pediatrics) required
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
- Must be able to float within like units
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
- Employment application must include at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for any gaps or overlaps
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Fit Mask: Required for travel nurses; must be updated annually
- Vaccinations:
- TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination accepted
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination
- Hepatitis B – Vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination
- Flu Vaccine – Required during flu season or declination accepted
- COVID Vaccine or Declination required
- TB Test: IGRA/TSPOT, QGold, or 2 PPDs within 12 months; must be updated annually
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required for travel nurses, must be medically cleared annually
Background & Verification
- Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Education verification required for nursing degree
- State-specific searches and registry checks as applicable
- References and employment history verification required
Training & Competency
- Must complete Providence-specific WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
- Core regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for Pediatrics and related units
- Epic training modules (completion required before moving to Paid Day Worked status)
- Competency exams as applicable (medication, pharmacology, fetal monitoring, etc.)
- Skills checklists required and must be updated annually
Additional Notes
- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
- Orientation includes Epic training and facility-specific onboarding
- Free parking available onsite
- Facility uses Royal Blue or Navy Blue scrubs for RNs; Peds RNs have specific scrub colors
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of pediatric experience who is flexible with floating and able to complete required certifications and training. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
