Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg 5S
Location: Savannah, Georgia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Unit & Patient Population
- MedSurg unit with a wide variety of patients including Med-Surg, Sickle Cell, heart failure, vascular, pulmonary, diabetes, failure to thrive, etc.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 5-6 to 1
- Nurse aides available with a ratio of 12 to 1
- Respiratory therapy equipment used includes nasal cannulas, face masks, and BiPAP
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts every 12 weeks (weekends are Saturday and Sunday; shifts may not be consecutive)
- Holiday shifts are required
- No call or standby requirements
- No floating required
- Blocked scheduling is not guaranteed
- Dress code: Navy scrubs
Orientation
- One day of computer skills training with a basic knowledge assessment test
- Two shifts of orientation with a preceptor
- Orientation includes 12-hour night shifts every other week
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Georgia
- Minimum of 2 years of MedSurg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Current BLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Completion of MedSurg skills checklist
Additional Notes
- Manager prefers candidates with strong MedSurg skills; candidates with heavy Telemetry or Stepdown experience are less likely to move forward
- Charge nurse takes an assignment on this unit
