Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg
Location: Ogden, Utah
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 5 PM – 5 AM
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Information
- Unit: Medical Surgical
- Number of Beds: 26
- Patient Ratio: 6:1
- Unit Staffing: Unit secretaries and techs available
- Equipment: Hoyer lifts, rolling computers, rolling vital signs machines
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Scheduling: Requires 4 weekend shifts per month
- Floating Policy: Can float to Surgical or Acute Rehab units
- Procedures: Patients return from heart procedures in cath lab to this unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Utah
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience managing NG/NJ tubes, chest tubes, and heparin drips
Skills & Experience
- Basic patient care knowledge
- Understanding of normal vital signs and lab values
- Proficient in medication administration and controlled substance handling
- Advanced skills: management of NG/NJ tubes, chest tubes, and heparin drips
- Preferred: Some prior Med Surg experience
Work Environment & Culture
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs (tops and bottoms)
- Recognized for safety and nursing excellence (Safety Catch Award, multiple Daisy Awards)
- Positive team atmosphere with strong support for new staff
- Use of current equipment and technology
Additional Notes
- Candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced Med Surg environment with opportunities to float to related units.
