Description
Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel Contract
Location
- Bakersfield, California
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Specialty

Shift & Hours
- Night shift
- 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- 36 hours per week
- Self-scheduling with manager final approval
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights, Sat/Sun days)
- Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor holiday shift required
Unit & Patient Population
- Emergency Department with 18 beds (Fast track staffed with midlevels and LVNs)
- Patient volume: 85–115 patients per day (average ~100)
- Patient types: fewer pediatrics, correctional patients with officer presence, more homeless and indigent population
- No cardiac patients (stabilized and transferred out)
- OB patients transferred to another campus
Staffing & Support
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (1:2 for ICU patients)
- Charge nurse roles: shift manager and resource nurse
- ED techs are EMTs or aides from other units
- Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7 with Omnicell system
- Hospitalist or Intensivist MDs present in ER
- No dedicated IV team
Orientation & Floating
- Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts at primary campus, 1 shift at secondary campus
- Floating between two facilities (6.5 miles apart) possible with at least 2 hours’ notice before shift; midshift floating may occur
Technology & Equipment
- EMR system: Cerner
- Telemetry monitors: Phillips
- Ventilator support available
Dress Code
- Scrubs: Navy blue required
- Scrub jackets must be navy blue
- Undershirts allowed in navy, white, or black only
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
