Surgical Technologist 1 - OR

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Day (4x10-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
On-Call: 4 to 5 call shifts per 4-week period (weekends and weekdays)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Maintain a sterile environment by applying principles of asepsis.
• Assist with surgical procedures by scrubbing, setting up rooms, and handling instruments.
• Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment efficiently.
• Ensure safety for patients, co-workers, and self.
• Perform sterilization, disinfection, and documentation according to policy.
• Assist with patient positioning and equipment setup during procedures.
• Participate in room turnover and precept medical students and residents.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of surgical technologist experience within the last year.
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.

Education

• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology OR
• Certificate of completion of a Surgical Technology program.

Certifications & Licensure

• Valid Surgical Technologist license in Illinois.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Skills & Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology relevant to surgical patient care.
• Understanding of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers as applied to surgical care.
• Competency in sterile technique and perioperative teamwork.
• Problem-solving skills related to surgical procedures.

Work Environment & Responsibilities

• General OR setting with a focus on trauma and orthopedic/total joint cases.
• Day shift with a 40-hour workweek.
• On-call duties include weekends and weekdays.
