Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work 3x12 hour rotating shifts (7 PM–7:30 AM / 7 AM–7:30 PM), including holiday rotation
  • Weekend requirement every other weekend (EOW)
  • Patient ratios: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Floating within clinical scope to meet unit needs
  • Unit: 13-bed inpatient adult acute medical-surgical unit, open 24/7
  • Patient population includes medical and surgical patients from general or family medicine service lines, direct and new admissions from ED, post recovery, or other inpatient units
  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Open to block scheduling with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis

Required Experience

  • 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or American Red Cross) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for adult critical care units, ER, ICU, Cath Lab (RNs), Labor & Delivery, and other specified units
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS for pediatric units, TNCC for trauma units) — verify per assignment

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Rotating shifts with holiday and weekend rotations
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs
  • Hurricane season (June–November) may require emergency response team participation

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence and work
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/booster documentation
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccination series, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (flu season August–March)
  • Physical exam updated annually attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Color blindness testing prior to start
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
  • Local radius considered up to 60 miles
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
  • Scrub color: solid royal blue or white top with royal blue bottoms
  • Parking permit required with associated fees (details provided upon hire)
