Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med Surg)
• Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:30 - 7:00)
• Hours per week: 36
• Patient ratio:

  • Days: 1:5-6
  • Nights: 1:6-7
• Local radius for commute: 75 miles
• Return to Office (RTO): Only one holiday off allowed; total time off 7 days or less

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate
• Experience with Epic

Certifications & Training

• ACLS (AHA strongly preferred; ARC accepted initially but must update to AHA)
• BLS (AHA strongly preferred; ARC accepted initially but must update to AHA)
• PALS (AHA strongly preferred; ARC accepted initially but must update to AHA)
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state requirement, annual)
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required if working in ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, or 7th Floor Med/Surg; expires every 3 years)
• Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific N95 masks required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted)
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented chickenpox history)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
• 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start (instant drug screen acceptable)

Documentation & Compliance

• Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Emergency Contact Form (required prior to start)
• Background checks including 7-year search, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG (updated annually)
• Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN staff)
• References:

  • 2 professional references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care
  • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
• Skills checklist (annual requirement)
• Facility-specific documents including:

  • Photo for badge (headshot, plain background, no head coverings)
  • Online learning modules (must be completed prior to first shift)
  • Omnicell form (nursing staff signature required)
  • Job description acknowledgment
  • Welcome packet acknowledgment

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs licensed in New York with strong clinical skills, EPIC experience, and the ability to work night shifts in a fast-paced hospital setting.
