Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 17 weeks


Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Day/Evening shifts
  • No on-call required

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience in:
    • Neurology
    • Orthopedics
    • Transplant (kidney/liver)
    • Trauma
    • Vascular
  • Minimum years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated; assume strong clinical background in listed areas

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Wisconsin
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by American Heart Association (AHA) only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit (check unit description)
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP) as applicable by unit or specialty

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including:
    • Social Security Number trace
    • County and nationwide criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID Form required within 90 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification as applicable (for RN, diploma or degree verification may be required)
  • Drug screening required per Vaya standard (clinical candidates)
  • Physical exam recommended per agency standard (not required by facility)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella):
    • 2 doses of MMR vaccine or positive titers required
    • Medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • Varicella:
    • 2 doses vaccine or positive titer required
    • Medical or religious exemptions accepted
  • Hepatitis B:
    • Completed vaccination series and positive antibody titer, or facility-specific declination form
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually (Sept-April)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof as applicable
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology department

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Facility-specific telemetry testing (Adult or Pediatric) required if applicable to unit
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG/medication knowledge required for certain RN specialties
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
  • Skills checklist required annually

Documentation & Facility Specifics

  • Passport-style photo for badge (no selfies, headwear except religious/medical)
  • Communicable disease form to be completed within 90 days of start
  • Medical and religious exemption forms for vaccines as applicable
  • Signed acknowledgment of pass/fail testing if telemetry testing required
  • Employment application and 2 clinical references within last 3 years required

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Strong clinical experience in:
    • Neurology / Neuro
    • Orthopedics / Orthopedic Surgery
    • Transplant Surgery (kidney/liver)
    • Trauma
    • Vascular / Vascular Surgery
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
