Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Nursing
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 - 7:00)
• Hours per week: 36
• Patient ratio:

  • Days: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Nights: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
• Return to Office (RTO): Only one holiday off allowed; total time off 7 days or less
• Local radius for commute: 75 miles
• Local hires accepted at a reduced rate (not specified here)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• Completion of Harassment Prevention Training
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Certifications & Training

• BLS (AHA strongly preferred; ARC accepted initially but must update to AHA)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred (AHA strongly preferred; ARC accepted initially)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred (AHA strongly preferred; ARC accepted initially)
• NY Harassment Prevention Training (annual requirement)
• Competency exams as applicable, including:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required if working in ICU, PCU, ER, or similar units; expires every 3 years)
• Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start date
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start and updated annually (specific N95 masks permitted)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted)
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (positive titer, vaccine proof, or documented chickenpox history)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
• 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start (instant drug screen acceptable)

Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Emergency contact form (required prior to start)
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year search of locations lived/worked/schooled
  • Sex offender registry
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM (annual)
  • HHS/OIG (annual)
  • Education verification
• Professional references:

  • 2 references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles within 3 years
  • 1 reference for per diem non-acute care roles
• Facility-specific documents to be signed and acknowledged, including job description and welcome packet
• Completion of required online learning modules prior to first shift
• Photo for badge (headshot on plain background, no head coverings or informal poses)
