Radiologic Technologist 2 - Heart & Vascular Institute Procedures (Interventional Radiology)
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (7:30 AM – 5:00 PM, 4 days on/9-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Summary
Provide specialized radiologic technologist care for patients undergoing invasive cardiology and interventional radiology procedures within the Heart & Vascular Institute. Assist physicians during procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer contrast material via existing IV or by performing venipuncture; monitor and respond to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
- Assist with inventory and supply management for procedures.
- Verify patient identity, diagnosis, and treatment positioning.
- Compile relevant clinical information (labs, pathology).
- Educate and support patients regarding procedures, ensuring comfort and confidentiality.
- Communicate accurate intra-procedural medication doses, radiation exposure, and counts of sponges/sharps to nursing staff.
- Perform on-call duties and variable shifts as needed.
- Maintain sterile field during procedures and assist with supply preparation.
- Perform peripheral vascular procedures, venous central line management, tube changes, embolization (venous and arterial), venous thrombectomy, and dialysis-related procedures (AV fistulas, tunneled dialysis catheters, peritoneal dialysis catheters).
- Manage tube access and changes (G-tube, cholecystostomy, nephrostomy, biliary, abscess, suprapubic catheter).
- Experience with interventional neurology and neuro procedures (cerebral arterial/venous, kyphoplasty) is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in Illinois
- Interventional Radiology Technologist experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- ARRT Radiography (R) certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- Associate's Degree in a related field or Certificate in Radiologic Technology
- Ability to manage hypersensitivity reactions effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous radiologic technology experience in a procedural/interventional setting.
- Experience with interventional neurology procedures.
Additional Information
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM with 4 nine-hour shifts per week.
- Must be able to work variable shifts and on-call as assigned.
- Ability to maintain sterile environment and assist with procedural supply management is essential.
