Short Stay Unit RN

Overview

• RN role in the Short Stay Unit
• 13 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Day shift: 07:00-19:30
• 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Active IL RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Overall gen med/surg experience
• Last four digits of SSN for submission
• Clinician’s middle initial
• Requested time off
• Negative drug screen for all panels

Unit Details

• Common patient types: stroke, traumas, cardiac, gen med (UTI, COPD, cellulitis)
• Fast-paced unit with high patient turnover
• Does not titrate drips
• House-wide telemetry using Phillips Monitoring; RNs are not required to read EKG strips
• Bi-pap, c-pap, and high flow are used
• Charge RN is present 24/7 and takes a patient assignment
• House supervisor is present 24/7
• PCT support: 2 on days and 1 on nights
• Unit orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor

Scheduling

• 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
• Every other holiday required
• No call

Floating

• Travelers are the first to float to other departments when needed
• If floated to a higher level of care and not experienced, the nurse is used as a help-all for team nursing

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Local rate adjustment applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles
• 12 non-billable orientation hours
• Scrubs are not provided
• Avoid pediatric scrub tops
