Registered Nurse – Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)
Job Overview
Seeking experienced RNs for a Telemetry/Medical-Surgical float pool. Nurses will float frequently between multiple units and two campuses (9 miles apart). Floating includes Telemetry, MedSurg, ICU, Cardiac Tele, Cath Lab, ER, observation floor, and other holding areas. Mid-shift floating and occasional campus changes are possible.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of current Telemetry nursing experience
- Active Arizona RN license or compact license
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required for Neuro unit
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips (e.g., Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine to titrate down only)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract start (max 2 attempts)
- Must pass a pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID-19 vaccine required or approved medical/religious declination documentation
- Ability to interpret EKGs (centralized telemetry monitoring)
Orientation & Testing
- Dysrhythmia exam required within 48 hours of offer (2 attempts max)
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation
- Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts to 2 days depending on unit
Units & Patient Types
CV Telemetry (B3A)
- 32 beds, ratio 1:3-4
- Patients: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
- No ventilated patients; patients 15 years and older
- Charge nurse and clinical supervisor present
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- No IV team; RT and pharmacy available 24/7
Neuro Telemetry (A3)
- 28 beds, ratio 1:3-4
- Patients: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVA post-TPA
- No ICP monitoring
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- RT and pharmacy available 24/7
Medical-Surgical C5
- 32 beds (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
- Ratio 1:4 days and nights
- Patients: Orthopedics (knee/hip replacements), urological, abdominal, Whipple, women’s surgeries (no OB/GYN)
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period including one major and one minor holiday
- No ventilated patients; no IV team (house SWAT nurse for difficult IVs)
- Pharmacy and RT available 24/7
Medical-Surgical B2C
- 29 beds, ratio 1:4 days and nights
- Patients: General MedSurg requiring telemetry, titrating Amiodarone and Cardizem down only
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period including one major and one minor holiday
- New grad training unit with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks
- No ventilated patients; no IV team (house SWAT nurse for difficult IVs)
- Pharmacy and RT available 24/7
Additional Details
- Charge nurses do not take patient assignments
- Patient care technicians (PCTs) support nursing staff (ratio approx. 1:16 patients)
- Scrub color: Navy
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with requirement to interpret EKGs
- Floating to similar or lower acuity units required
- Weekend and holiday coverage required as specified per unit
- Must clock out/in when traveling between campuses
- Hospitalist available during day and on-call at night
This position is ideal for RNs with strong telemetry skills, flexibility to float across multiple units and campuses, and the ability to manage cardiac drips safely.
