Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Travel/Contract
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit.
- Experience with pacemakers, IV insulin protocols, and Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) required.
- Must be able to float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities if needed.
- Charting system: Epic.
- No block scheduling accommodations.
- Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted.
- Return to work (RTO) restrictions: no more than 5 days allowed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma.
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience with pacemakers, IV insulin protocols, and Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or State-issued ID.
- Utility bill in candidate’s name with matching address dated within last 3 months; address must be more than 75 miles from contracted facility.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list, and education verification.
- Verification of highest level of education (transcript/diploma).
- Physical exam within 1 year stating good health and no physical limitations.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required.
- Hepatitis B: completed vaccine series, positive titer, or declination (declinations require annual renewal).
- Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: valid within 10 years; Tdap mandatory for certain units.
- Flu vaccine required annually (with medical or religious exemption accepted; declinations not accepted).
- Negative 8-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and updated annually (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, opiates, oxycodone, phencyclidine). Positive marijuana results not accepted for safety-sensitive roles.
- Annual HIPAA and OSHA acknowledgment.
- Facility-specific documents including patient care orientation, policy acknowledgments, confidentiality agreements, drug and alcohol-free workplace policy, and ethical business conduct acknowledgment.
- Fit testing for N95 mask required onsite within 1 year prior to start.
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (100% passing score, updated annually).
- Color blindness test within 60 days prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams with minimum 80% passing score, updated annually.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with 90% passing score, updated annually.
- Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) covering safety, ethics, patient rights, abuse, pain management, etc., updated annually.
- Conscious sedation competency exam if applicable, updated annually.
References & Work History
- Two references required from former direct supervisors (one within 1 year, one within 3 years).
- Employment history verification for the past 10 years, including international positions and explanations for gaps over 30 days.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must not live within 75 miles of the facility.
- No pending state licenses accepted.
- No local candidates accepted.
- No first-time travelers accepted.
- Floating to sister facilities may be required.
- RTO (return to work) days limited to 5 or fewer.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs with required certifications and a willingness to work 12-hour day shifts on a travel contract basis.
