Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Utica, New York

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med Surg)

• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:5-6
  • Nights: 1:6-7
• Local Radius: 75 miles
• Return to Office (RTO): Only one holiday off allowed; total time off 7 days or less

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Certifications & Training

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) strongly preferred; initial ARC accepted but updates must be AHA
• BLS (Basic Life Support) strongly preferred; initial ARC accepted but updates must be AHA
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) strongly preferred; initial ARC accepted but updates must be AHA
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state requirement)
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required if working in ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, or 7th Floor Med Surg Unit; expires every 3 years)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start date
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start and updated annually (specific approved mask types required)
• Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold) or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive PPD, negative chest X-ray required within 1 year
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented chickenpox history)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (September 1 - March 31)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
• 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable)

Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Emergency Contact Form (required prior to start)
• Background checks including 7-year search, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG (updated annually)
• Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN only)
• State license primary source verification
• Facility-specific documents including:

  • Photo for badge (headshot, plain background, no head coverings)
  • Signed job description
  • Signed Omnicell form (nursing staff)
  • Welcome packet acknowledgment
  • Completion of online learning modules prior to first shift (proof required)

  • 2 professional references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care
  • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
