Cath Lab Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work in a very busy Cath Lab requiring flexibility to stay until all cases are completed.
  • Schedule: 3x12 hour day shifts (8:30 AM - 8:30 PM).
  • Weekend shifts: 1 weekend every 4-5 weeks (Friday evening to Monday morning).
  • Call requirements:
    • 2 weekday nights per week (7 PM to 6:30 AM).
    • Weekend call every 4-5 weeks (Friday 7 PM to Monday 6:30 AM), rotating between two call teams every 12 hours.
  • Average daily patient census: 35-45.
  • Staffing ratio: 1:1.
  • Patient population: Adult cardiology and structural cardiology.
  • Procedures include: LHC, RHC, PCI, CTO, Impella, IABP, ECMO, TPM, shock wave, IVUS, Pneumbra, TAVR, Watchman, and upcoming mitral and tricuspid valve procedures.
  • Equipment used: Siemens Artiz Z & Q, Impella, IABP, Philips Volcano IVUS, BSC IVUS, CTO-abbott, Shockwave, Cerner EHR.
  • No floating to sister facilities.
  • Must be willing to comply with a 100-mile radius rule for travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in West Virginia.
  • Minimum 1 year of Cath Lab Technologist experience within the last year.
  • One completed travel assignment with experience working as a traveler in the lab performing all procedures.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA only, no pending or onsite completion allowed).
    • ACLS (AHA only, no pending or onsite completion allowed).
    • ARRT (BD) certification.
    • ARRT (R) certification.

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) including Cerner Infusion Management training.
  • Must complete required inservice training modules (approx. 4 hours) one week before start, including pass/fail testing for certain specialties.
  • Pass/fail testing required for nursing candidates only (EKG, medication calculation, blood administration).
  • Candidates must complete annual skills checklist for specialty.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming good health and no limitations.
  • Annual fit mask testing required (3M N95 1860 Small or Regular and Aura 9205 only). PAPR accommodations available if fit test fails.
  • Negative TB test within 3 months of start or negative chest X-ray if positive TB history. Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Required vaccinations or proof of immunity:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval).
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titers; boosters required if negative).
    • Hepatitis B (completion of series or documented immunity required).
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titers; boosters required if negative).
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually during flu season.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted.
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, benzodiazepines, methadone, propoxyphene). No placeholders or pending results accepted.

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county, sex offender, national, and international searches if applicable.
  • Must complete SAM and OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually.
  • Social Security Card required (legible).
  • One professional reference required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the last year.
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start.

Additional Information

  • Guaranteed minimum 36 hours per week.
  • Scrubs and parking provided free for travelers.
  • No restrictions on return to work.
  • No floating to other facilities.
  • Must comply with facility dress code and policies, including blood administration and time/attendance policies.
  • Candidate must complete facility-specific forms including liability and time gap forms before privileges are granted.

This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab Technologists with prior travel experience who are comfortable with a high-volume, fast-paced environment and complex interventional cardiology procedures.
