Assignment Details

  • Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown
  • Term: 13-Week Long Term Assignment (LTA)
  • Shift: 12-Hour Nights | 19:00 – 07:30
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week | Every other weekend requirement
  • On-Call Requirement: No

Role & Clinical Overview:

 

The Registered Nurse in the Cardiothoracic Progressive Care / Stepdown Unit is responsible for delivering high-quality, specialized care to intermediate-acuity cardiac patients. Operating within a Level 1 Trauma setting, the clinician must demonstrate strong telemetry assessment and progressive care skills.

 

Key Responsibilities & Clinical Protocols

  • Vascular Access: RNs are responsible for starting peripheral IVs. A dedicated IV team is available for additional clinical support.
  • Scope Parameters: RNs are not required to perform diagnostic EKGs or discontinue vascular sheaths on this unit.
  • Telemetry Monitoring: Continuous cardiac telemetry is utilized and supported by a dedicated remote monitoring team.
  • Phlebotomy Support: The laboratory department collects routine blood specimens, optimizing nursing workflows.
  • EMR System: Documentation is fully electronic, utilizing the Cerner OneChart platform.
  • Uniform Code: Unit dress code requires Ceil Blue scrubs.

Unit Description & Specifications

  • Unit Setting: 16-bed Cardiothoracic Progressive Care Unit / Stepdown.
  • Clinical Setting: Located within a busy Level 1 Trauma Center.
  • Support Staff: Collaborative environment with dedicated laboratory services, IV team support, and remote telemetry monitor techs.

Position Requirements

 

Experience & Licensure

  • Clinical Experience: Strong, recent clinical experience in a PCU, Stepdown, or high-acuity Cardiac Telemetry setting.
  • State Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas (or an active Compact/Multistate RN license) in good standing.

Certifications

  • Required Certifications: Active AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
