CVOR nurses have advanced knowledge of all types of cardiac operative procedures, which helps hone their lifesaving skills. They have enhanced technical skills that allow them to operate and troubleshoot complex machinery. To become a CVOR travel nurse, individuals must have an active RN license. This requires an associate or a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program, passing the NCLEX-RN and completing state licensing requirements. Certification in Basic Life Support is required and many facilities prefer, and sometimes require, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.

CVOR nurses may hold Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR), among others.
