The float pool is a great place to work as a med surg RN. The floors can get heavy with up to 1:6 ratios but not always and staff tends to be helpful.

Not a very welcoming environment for travelers

Took a contract on their stepdown unit. Hospital has an abundance of resources; facility is clean and well stocked most of the time. Cafe is open until 0200 for night staff to eat. I would say 80% of the nurses I worked with were awesome and I enjoyed my time there. Scheduling was terrible, for a month they put me on every other day night shift which just about took me out. Med surg floors are often a train wreck where I floated several times, but nothing I haven't delt with. Staff is actually made up mostly of travelers which can be hectic at times when they float multiple travelers to a unit where NONE of us have worked. When staff come on for day shift, they are upset if certain things aren't done, or certain hospital specific policies weren't followed (can't do anything about that!). Doctors were extremely responsive and always available for last minute orders at night, or if a patient was declining. Managers were responsive with concerns, but often responses were generic management garbage (the usual). I always felt like I had the tools and resources to complete my job which is rare to come across during travel contracts. I would take a contract here again.

Management did things to ensure travelers wouldn’t want to extend. Wouldn’t extend them, gave wrong information and refused to allow travelers to work holidays or overtime

Gave the broken beds/ equipment  to travel nurses in surgical department ( OR and Preop). Security badges given were just old badges with tape placed over them . Union hospital and staff management  was unfriendly /hostile toward travel nurses . Staff nurses complained about their compensation and were constantly asking travel staff about their compensation. Given unrealistic assignments . Contracts were cut early with no real reason . Would not recommend for other travelers .
