Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a TN or compact RN license, travel experience, and availability for night shifts including every other weekend.

Details

  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • On-call requirement of 36 hours every 6 weeks
  • Every other weekend (approximately 2 weekends per month) required
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 on the Labor & Delivery unit
  • Floating required in accordance with clinical experience and Joint Commission standards
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred but not required
  • Work settings include Labor & Delivery, LDRP, Antepartum, Mother/Baby, and Level I Nursery
  • Patient population includes antepartum, laboring, postpartum, and high-risk obstetrical patients
  • Facility birth volume ranges from under 100 to 300 births per month

Requirements

  • Active TN or compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
  • Required certifications (must be in hand at time of consideration): BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP; NIHSS may be obtained after offer
  • All licenses and certifications must not expire within 45 days of the assignment start date
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Travel nursing experience required
  • Demonstrated skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood administration, venous blood draws, IV insertion and maintenance, infusion pump management, and Labor & Delivery management
  • Required clinical competencies include: circulating for C-sections, forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, C-section recovery, fetal heart rate monitoring, and antepartum triage
  • Required medication administration experience: Magnesium Sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), prostaglandins, antiseizure medications, and anticoagulation therapy
  • Required neonatal delivery room skills: APGAR scoring, cord sample collection, ID/security banding, and radiant warmer/thermoregulation
  • Candidate's permanent address must be more than 75 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel pay rate

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities span the full continuum of OB care including antepartum monitoring (NST, OCT, EFM), labor management, C-section scrub and circulation, postpartum and couplet care, and newborn assessment and discharge teaching
  • Additional preferred (not required) skills include amnioinfusion, assistance with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, scrubbing for C-sections, and sterile vaginal exams
  • Preferred medication experience includes antihypertensives, insulin drips, and terbutaline
  • RTO is not permitted during any major holiday or surrounding period, including: Valentine's Day, Local Spring Break, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Local Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's; holiday RTO requests may be addressed directly with the manager after arriving onsite
  • RTO cannot occur within 14 days of the assignment start date and cannot exceed 7 days total
  • Candidates who were previously permanent staff at the same campus are ineligible to return within 24 months; candidates may return to a different campus within the same health system after 12 months
  • Orientation is bi-weekly and includes non-billable module completion tracked through the facility's internal system
  • Travelers who are married or related may not be placed on the same unit
