Description

Registered Nurse - PACU

Location: Newton, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule

  • 2 shifts of 12 hours and 2 shifts of 8 hours per week, with varied start times
  • Up to 3 call shifts every 6 weeks

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Massachusetts (MA Conditional Licenses not accepted)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Primary source verification of license and certifications required within 30 days of start date
  • NURSYS and Board of Nursing (BON) verification required for nursing licenses

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid RN license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date (no exemptions allowed)
  • Respirator Medical Clearance attestation required if fit test is required
  • TB test (skin test or blood test) within 3 months of start date, updated if break >6 months
  • Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date, updated if break >6 months
  • MMR vaccination or proof of immunity required
  • Hepatitis B vaccination strongly preferred (or proof of immunity or declination)
  • Tdap vaccination preferred (within 10 years)
  • If positive TB test, documentation of negative chest x-ray required

Background & Compliance Checks

  • Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start date, updated if break >6 months
  • Massachusetts CORI background check within 30 days prior to start date, updated if break >6 months
  • Social Security Number trace for past 7 years addresses/employment/schooling
  • National sex offender registry check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days of start, updated annually

Submission Requirements

  • Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state
  • Two references within 4 years, at least one supervisor or above in relevant skillset
  • Skills checklist completed within 1 year of submission
  • Candidate submission coversheet (current version)
  • License/certification verification required for submission
  • Name change documentation if legal name differs from credential documentation

Onboarding Requirements

  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications must be current and verified
  • Self-study orientation and attestation specific to the facility required
  • Medication exam with 80% passing score within 365 days
  • Confirmation of assignment/POI form upon acceptance and for any extensions

Additional Notes

  • No religious or medical exemptions allowed for N95 fit testing
  • Fit testing cannot be performed onsite; must be completed prior to start
  • Some certifications accept AHA, Red Cross, CHSF, or Military; preference for AHA in certain hospitals
  • Background check includes international residence or travel exceeding 30 consecutive days within last 7 years

This position is suitable for experienced PACU Registered Nurses seeking a 13-week long-term assignment with variable shifts and call responsibilities in Massachusetts.
