Registered Nurse – Neuro Telemetry
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Neuro Telemetry
Unit Size: 32 beds
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7pm to 7am)
Hours per Week: 36
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum)
Job Overview
- Fast-paced, high turnover neuro telemetry unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Patients include trached patients, CVA, TBI, spinal surgery, encephalopathy, ESRD, psych issues, brain tumors.
- Central monitoring with telemetry; must be able to interpret EKGs.
- No ventilator patients on this unit.
- Charge nurse role includes light patient assignments.
- Nurse aides support: 4 during day shifts, 3 during night shifts.
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts every 8 weeks.
- Holidays worked according to permanent staff holiday rotation.
- Floating to cardiac telemetry, telemetry overflow in ICU, and med-surg units.
- Bedside report expected.
- Scrub color: Steel gray.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Arizona.
- Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in specialty (Neuro experience preferred).
- Level 1 Trauma experience required.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), BLS, and ACLS certifications required.
- Cerner EMR experience required.
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam must be passed 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (max 2 attempts). Failure results in 6-month disqualification in region.
- Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation.
- SIMs Lab competency required for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (except ED and Neuro ICU have modified requirements). Maintaining sterile field is critical.
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings.
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
- Must have own vehicle (travel teams).
- Prior travel experience required for Neuro ICU or ED assignments.
Orientation & Onboarding
- 2-day floor-specific orientation.
- Weekly orientations held on Mondays (except holidays).
- Onboarding documents must be completed by 1pm CST Wednesday before start date; incomplete files will delay start.
Facility & Environment Notes
- Teaching hospital with nursing students on the unit.
- Central pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7.
- IV team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks.
- No hospitalist or intensivist in-house.
- Parking assigned with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage.
Additional Information
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed.
- Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer.
- Must have been off permanent staff assignment with this employer for 12 months before being eligible for travel assignment.
- 50-mile radius rule applies for travel reimbursement considerations.
This position is ideal for experienced neuro telemetry nurses who meet trauma and certification requirements, are comfortable with telemetry monitoring and fast-paced environments, and have prior travel experience in critical care settings.
