Med Surg RN

Location

  • Wheeling, West Virginia

Contract

  • 13 weeks
  • 36 hours per week
  • 12-hour night shifts

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
  • Willingness to float to a COVID unit
  • Must be within a 50-mile radius
  • Unexpired driver’s license must be submitted with the application

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with peritoneal dialysis

Unit Details

  • Med Surg unit with 52 private rooms
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6–7, most often 1:7
  • RNs do not start IVs on this unit; IV team handles IV starts
  • RN assignment may include reading strips if the nurse has that experience

Schedule

  • Every other weekend
  • Holidays are part of the rotation
  • Schedules are built in 6-week blocks

Floating

  • May float to other Med Surg units, Med Surg/Oncology, and possibly IMC overflow

Patient Population

  • Post-op orthopedic, basic neuro post-op, general post-op, and medical patients
  • Hemodialysis patients are also on the floor

Clinical Support

  • Hospitalist, intensivist, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, IV team, and PICC team are available 24/7

Orientation

  • General hospital orientation plus 2 full shifts on the unit
