Description
American Traveler is hiring a Travel RN for a General Surgery unit requiring telemetry competency and urology/bowel experience on a night shift schedule.
Details
- Work on an 8K General Surgery unit within a hospital setting
- 44-bed unit with a day shift staffing grid of 1 charge, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, and 1 unit secretary, and a night shift grid of 1 charge, 10 RNs, 4 CNAs, and 1 unit secretary
- Patient ratios of 1:6 on day shift and 1:7 on night shift
- Uses telemetry, PCA, wound vacs, Baxter IV pumps, TPN, tube feeds, and urinary catheters
- Cerner EMR system in use
- Night shift schedule from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
- 13-week assignment length
- 6 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to other med-surg areas
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required
- Telemetry competency certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Urology and bowel patient care experience required
- Ability to manage 6-7 patients depending on shift
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration (no Canadian SSN accepted)
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history exceeding 90 days within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care for general surgery patients including cholecystectomies, appendectomies, bowel resections, urology surgeries, nephrectomies, hysterectomies, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, and hernia repairs
- Manage procedures including TPN, PCA, wound vacs, tube feeds, PEG tubes, dobhoffs, NG tubes, colostomies, urostomies, and various drains
- Administer heparin drips and IV antibiotics as needed
- Collaborate closely with charge nurses, unit secretaries, providers, and CNA team members
- Ideal candidates are positive, energetic, fast-paced, and strong communicators
- Dress code requires navy blue pants with navy blue or white scrub top, and white undershirt if needed; sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, coats, and jackets are not permitted
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility as local candidates will not be considered
